What Your Kids Are NOT Learning at School: Subject Matter Experts Speak Out

This is a show for everyone, not just parents! You should all know what people are, and are NOT being taught in our schools. These are the people who will run your country someday!

Join me as I sit down to with seven subject matter experts who are either currently teaching, have taught, or are working in academia with student pursuing higher learning after receiving what was supposed to be an “education” in these subject areas. They’ll share what they’re seeing and have seen in the recent past, and explain why things like CRT are the tip of the tip of the iceberg of the problems in education today. Featuring:

Frank McCormick: Frank is a teacher, historian, and writer. For ten years he has taught high school history, civics, economics, and sociology in the midwestern USA. You can read his writings at ChalkboardHeresy.com.

Allison Coates: Allison has been homeschooling her 3 gifted sons (ages 10,13, and 15) for the past 5 years. She is a co-founder of BRIGHTLinks and is our mathematics lead and curriculum specialist. She is an author and editor of math textbooks as well as the former founder and head of the Middle School Mathematics Institute (MSMI). She has an S.B. in Mathematics from MIT and an MS in Computer Science from UC Berkeley.

Patrick Labelle: Patrick grew up in Quebec city, Quebec. He obtained his undergraduate degree there, in physics, and then went to Cornell for his PhD. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University, Montreal. He then started teaching at a college near Montreal where he has been teaching for the past twenty years. He also occasionally teaches at two local universities, in the physics and math departments.

The Real Mrs. G: Mrs. G. currently teaches middle and high school English at a rural Northwestern Iowa public school. She is a former homeschooler, recent teacher education graduate, former small business owner, and long-time free-market professional who enjoys drawing on these mixed experiences to help students and teachers navigate the best educational options for them.

Rhyen Staley: Rhyen is a third generation educator with a Masters in Elementary Ed, and has spent 15 Yrs in the classroom teaching classes ranging from grade 6 to freshman in college. He also has 7 years experience coaching collegiate athletics. He is currently teaching ELA at an urban middle school, but has also taught Science, Social Studies, Math, and Journalism.

Gina Misra: Gina is currently the editor in chief of Sciworthy, a non-profit science education website. She is also a biologist. Gina has worked with undergraduate students since 2011 where she began training them in a molecular biology lab. She has also taught 2-year and 4-year college science courses, tutored HS and college biological sciences, mentored undergraduate research projects, and currently runs a science writer training program at Sciworthy.

Adirenne Wootten: Adrienne is a research scientist at a research 1 university, and specifically focuses on climate science and modeling. In her capacity, she doesn’t teach students in the classroom, but does mentor both undergraduate and graduate college students doing research projects or interested in careers in science. She also regularly publishes content on issues and topics on science and higher education via her YouTube channel, ScioSophia. All the opinions she expresses here are entirely her own and not representative of her employer or colleagues.
